Our Great and Wonderful God

Testimony of Ms. Gao - November 15, 2014

Ms. Gao is 38 years old and her husband Mr. Zhou is already 58 years old. They have four people in their family, themselves and their two daughters. Their second daughter is called Wen Li ; Wen Li will be 1 year old and graduating from the program next month. Ms. Gao is now, unintentionally, six months pregnant, and is enrolled by our workers. The whole family is a minority, of Miao descent, and lives a difficult life in the suburbs of their minority village. Due to the fact that Mr. Zhou is already 58 years old, uneducated, and cannot find any work, he is despised by others in the village and has never received help from anyone else.

Through the co-workers caring for WenLi and through their constant preaching to the family, Ms. Gao's whole family has come to know Jesus' infinite and true love. Other than the love of Jesus, is there any other love on earth that can provide such warmth? Therefore, Ms. Gao and Mr. Zhou have decided to wholeheartedly trust in and always follow the Lord. Before this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival, on September 8th, our co-workers led the couple in a prayer to accept Jesus Christ. Now, this family have a church that they go to every week to worship and praise.

Yesterday, when the co-workers went to visit the family, they felt that the couple has changed greatly.  They said: "Believing in the Lord is amazing. Our hearts are filled with joy and all of our sorrows are gone." They also said they want to look for more opportunities to spread the gospel to others. Mr. Zhou said passionately: "Jesus is great and wonderful. He is a God that heals and releases, and listens to our prayers." Through prayer, Mr. Zhou's frequent dizziness and body pains are gone. All glory to God!

Although the co-workers left at dawn to go meet the family and did not return home until after it was dark out, they were filled with joy to see the changes that have been brought to this family, to see the Holy Spirit working with them, and to see the fruit of the Spirit. Everything is worth it.

On one outing to find mothers and daughters, a few of our workers went through an outdoor vegetable and meat market, and there became acquainted with a woman, Ms. Wei (above), who ran a public toilet. These marketplaces are busy centers for all walks of life to congregate, bustling with shoppers, motorcycles, carts, children, dogs, and thieves. Rows and rows of makeshift platforms covered by fresh vegetables, fruit, fish, and meat create narrow passages slick with mud, oil, and blood. A toilet in this area is not somewhere anyone would like to hang around, and is usually operated and...

This week, Vice President Joe Biden was in China. In remarks to Sichuan University, he said something many are now trying to understand: “Your policy has been one which I fully understand—I’m not second guessing—of one child perfamily.”

As founder of All Girls Allowed, a non-profit focused on helping girls and mothers who have been victimized by China’s One-Child Policy, I am deeply troubled by the Vice President’s statement.  At best, it is a statement of ambiguity that gives permission to China to continue its brutal and coercive...

Today, Obama proclaimed Women's Equality Day.  It's the 91st anniversary of the creation of the 19th Amendment (giving women the right to vote). In his beautifully crafted proclamation were strong words about women pursuing their dreams.

"On the 91st anniversary of this landmark in civil rights, we continue to uphold the foundational American principles that we are all equal, and that each of us deserves a chance to pursue our dreams."

As a woman who came to America from the regime of China, this day has special significance for me...
